Our Experiences:  Tashkent is a huge city. It was the 4th largest Soviet Union city. After Uzbekistan independence in 1991, Tashkent became richer and well developed. The city is full of greens and nice ancient mosques. There are also some interesting Soviet style subway stations.  The best of Uzbekistan are the cities on the ancient Silk Route, that have become very rich during this big Asia-Europe trading period.  Samarkand is the richest in history. Conquered by Alexander the Great, destroyed by Genghis Khan and visited by Marco Polo, the city is the home of the famous Registan Square: Three huge beautiful colored buildings with magnificent architecture style that seem to touch the blue sky above. It is very impressive and much more beautiful than the Taj Mahal (yet much more unknown to the tourists) . Samarkand is a must go!  We took a super high speed train between the cities. Nice equipment!

Hotels we love and recommend:  Hyatt Regency ( Tashkent )
